Ever since my son was a baby, his dad has taken him along on his trips to the hardware store. Ever since he was old enough to walk, he was drawn to one aisle – the latch aisle. He could spend hours opening and closing hinges and latches. But because I don’t want to spend hours at the hardware store, I decided to bring the latches home and make him an activity board.
Want to make your own Latch Activity Board?
- Piece of Lumber

- Paint/Sandpaper (Optional)
- Latches
- Sand the corners and edges of your board and then paint.
- Attach the latches (they usually come with the necessary hardware).
- Let your child be entertained for hours!
Love this! I had forgotten that I bought latches to try this out as well. Thanks for sharing how you put your together. Hopped on over from the Weekly Kid’s Co-op linky!

I love this activity board idea, and I wanted you to know I’m featuring it this week at the Kid’s Co-op.
Love this, and my boys would have such fun with it! Think i might need to make a trip to the hardware store. I’m also one of three girls and so far our next generation is five boys!
I am going to have to have my hubby make one of these for our boys, I even have gone as far as purchasing all the latches, just have to have them put onto a board! Thanks so much for sharing, it looks amazing, I’m sure you will get lots of use out of it! Have a great week!!
I’m so glad you’re going to do this! My son loves it and I hope your kids enjoy it as much as he does. BTW I’m now following your blog. Thanks for stopping by – I love finding new blogs through our comments.

My husband made one of these, and our 2 year old loves it! Thanks so much for sharing this.
It’s a great toy – the only problem is once they know how to open all those latches there’s no more containing them!
Fabulous idea! I wish I’d had this when my kids were young. I’ll try to keep it in mind for the future. Grandkids are probably only a few years away for me.
Thanks for the idea. Brilliant!
