You know. Those days when your 2 year old learns how to unlock the front door and decides to take a trip to a neighbor’s house while you’re busy nursing the baby.

Those days when said 2 year old may or may not have had any clothes on.

You know those days where you know you should take a break, take a breath, a bath or a walk and instead find yourself raiding the pantry for the chocolate chips.

Those days when you lose it. You yell. You feel yourself doing outrageous things like screaming “close your eyes and take a nap now” while realizing that no one could go to sleep when being yelled at like that.

Those days when you begin counting down to bedtime and it’s not even noon.

Those days where you disregard all grammar rules and nouns become verbs as you yell “do NOT eye your baby brother ever again!”

Those days when you feel like you’ve failed as a mother.

And at the end of one of those days your sweet little boy gives you the world’s biggest hug while saying “I love you so much, Melanie.” (yep, he’s still calling me by my first name).

I love you too my son. I’m sorry I was having “one of those days.” Thank you for loving me anyways. I will try to be better tomorrow.

I made this adorable birthday banner for my son this year.  It was so easy and turned out so cute.  Plus I’ll be able to reuse it for other family member’s birthdays.

Supplies needed:

• 12×12 scrapbook paper (I used three different colors)
• twine
• clothespins
• letters

To cut the triangles, I folded the 12×12 paper in half, then cut three triangles from each half (so you get six per sheet of paper).  To cut the letters I used my Cricut which I got for Christmas.  At the craft store, they also have lots of alphabet stickers that you could use.

Then I used the clothespins to attach the triangles to the twine.  Simple as that!

These invitations are an original idea because my son did not just want angry birds, he wanted Angry Birds in Space!  We had to compromise on some of the decor, but I came up with these invitations that turned out pretty cute.

I cut out big red circles (obviously) then used the same size circles in black for the eye mask.  I cut those in half, at an angle and cut in the divit.  The white is a smaller circle for the belly.  I free handed the beak and the hair feathers.  Pretty easy and pretty cute!

I made these adorable cupcakes that I found here.

I liked that I didn’t have to die the frosting with food coloring.  We dipped them in sprinkles, and my kiddos had fun helping. A few kids at the party said, “Where’s the birthday cake?”  I told them, “the cupcakes are the cake.”  And they said, “Oh, that’s weird.”  LOL.  I thought they were a cute idea.

Then I made these party favor bags for the kids to keep their candy from the pinata. Although I attached the faces with a glue stick and most of them came right off once the kids got their hands on them.  Use stronger glue.

We decorated with these balloons that are a free printable template.  I didn’t even print them, I just looked at them then free handed it.  Saved on ink.

Then for games at the party, we played our own version of Angry Birds!  I collected lots of boxes and covered them in green paper and gave them pig faces.

We set them up in different arrangements and let the kids take turns throwing angry birds at them to knock them all down.

My mom knitted these adorable angry birds and pigs (which I’m sure she’ll do a post on how to knit them!)  And the kids loved that they got to pick two to take home with them as party favors.

And of course we also did the pig pinata, which was a hit!

Overall, it was a very fun birthday party.  We stayed busy having fun and we did not have to spend too much money on it, by making the decorations ourselves.

I feel like I fell into this role pretty easily and it came pretty naturally to me.  My oldest was an observant baby – always soaking up the world.  He slept well, he ate well.  He made being a mom easy.  He is now five years old.  He loves to learn, loves to tell jokes and loves his family.

Two and a half years ago, my second baby boy was born and I was smitten. I thought he looked so similar to his big brother in the beginning, but he is definitely his own man. He is a boy of few words but many expressions.  He is big, tough, fun and he makes me laugh everyday.  I have to laugh with him or I’d go crazy.

My house is full of boys and my heart if full of love.  These boys are everything to me.  We just got done playing, “We’re the good knights, Daddy’s the bad king, and we’re gonna save queen Mommy!”  I love being their mommy!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mom’s out there.  Even if our world seems small, filled with Legos, dirty diapers and snotty noses, we are the world to these little ones.
